Nestled among the pastoral excellence of Victoria’s Macedon Ranges, Carlsruhe is a rural locality only 70 km north-west from Melbourne. It was named after the German hometown of Charles Ebden who established one of the area’s first runs in 1837 and served as an important district settlement prior to Kyneton’s formation 10 years later.

Throughout its early days, Carlsruhe boasted features such as an armed regiment (1838-39), a hotel (1846) and police station with more than 30 officers until mid 1850s – not forgetting it’s school opened 183! These days you can find this unique town both alongside Calder Highway or bypassed by Calder Freeway 50 minutes away from either Bendigo or Melbourne city center respectively.
